Tallavey Cottages at Tigh-na-Croft is an eco-friendly, luxury guest sanctuary. We warmly invite you to give us feedback and ideas for ways we can build on and develop our Green Tourism principles. Please join us in keeping our local Strathardle community and environment sustainable and inclusive by helping in these ways:
Conserve household energy
Please switch off lights when not in use, turn off electrical appliances and turn the heating down if you are too warm, be mindful of open windows/doors if heating is being used. More energy saving tips are available through Home Energy Scotland. All energy used at Tallavey is provided by 100% renewable sources.
Leave the car at home
There are very limited public transport options, particularly outside of school term time. If you are considering trying to reach us by public transport, please contact us first. The timetable for the number 71 bus can be found on the Stagecoach website. There are many well kept, accessible and signposted local walks direct from the cottages, including the Cateran Trail. Details can be found in the local maps and guides in the map boxes or from the Kirkmichael Paths Network. There is secure bike storage on site and bikes can be hired locally.
Shop Local & Use local products
For your grocery needs, we are fortunate to have a locally run, well stocked community shop just down the road in Kirkmichael. Fresh meat, fish and vegetable boxes can be ordered through the shop. Our partners and suppliers include the Bean Shop, Charlotte Flower Chocolates, Persie Gin, Robertsons of Pitlochry, Drumturk Cheeses, Greens Granola and Dunkeld Smoked Salmon. The cottages both feature the work of talented local artists. Many have open studios and there are excellent galleries in Pitlochry, Aberfeldy and Dunkeld where you can purchase their work.
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
To help reduce the impact of your packaging waste please try and buy products which have minimal amounts of plastic packaging. The cottages contain sustainable shopping bags and water bottles for use during your stay. Please re-use items where possible. We encourage recycling through the marked bins in the cottages. More information on what can be recycled locally can be found on the Perth and Kinross Council website.
Be Water Wise
Water conservation helps combat the rising costs of water treatment and flood defences. Please be mindful of turning off needlessly running taps.
Respect Nature
You are in one of the most beautiful and unspoilt areas of the country. Please help us to ensure it stays this way by looking after our environment and wildlife, by not littering, guarding against fire and using footpaths responsibly. More details can be found in the outdoor access code. As you will see from our nature diary and visitor book, we have many native winged and four legged residents nearby and we want to keep on good terms with them. Please do feel free to record any that you see in our nature diary and visitor book.
Support Green Businesses
This charter has been compiled with the assistance of the guiding principles of the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS). Aimed at encouraging and supporting businesses to become more environmentally aware and sustainable in their work practices, they accredit suitable organisations across Britain. By supporting Tallavey, you are making a contribution to our Green way of working and thinking which can only benefit us all going forward.
